2016 Hunting Schedule

Javelina are abundant on the Reservation, but the highest densities are found in portions of A, B and D Units. Javelina hunting season is concurrent for both tribal member and non-members. Javelina are most prevalent in oak/juniper areas and juniper woodlands, interspersed with desert or grassland habitats. Javelina live for about 9 years and are capable of breeding any time of year, with gestation of 5 months. The age of sows at first breeding is 10 months. Javelinas are highly social and will move in groups of around 10 individuals. The San Carlos Apache Tribe Recreation and Wildlife department monitors javelina through our hunter questionnaire survey. We do not attempt to estimate the population size and demographics directly. Permits and tags for Non-Members for 2014-15 Javelina hunting are sold on a first come, first serve basis.
