San Carlos is considered a premier place to hunt Turkey because the population is both large and healthy. Merriam’s Turkey are found throughout the northern forested portions of the Reservation, including the Natanes Plateaus and woodlands. 4 Turkey hunts are organized for  Non-members: 1 in the Fall and 3 in the Spring. Spring hunts are restricted to Toms but both sexes can be hunted during the Fall hunt. 1 Fall hunt is reserved for Tribal members and coincides with the Tribal Deer season. The Fall hunt for Non-tribal members occurs in early November. Toms average about 18 pounds in size, while hens range between 8 and 12 pounds.

Up to 2 Turkeys may be harvested per hunting year; 1 Turkey per season or Hunters can harvest 2 Turkeys in any single season with the Double Turkey license.

2017-2018 Turkey tags will go on sale December 5, 2016. Please refer to the 2017-18 Hunting Schedule for Season dates.
